Guardsmen Honored for Scout Camporee Service
National Guardsmen from Thomasville and Bainbridge received a certificate of appreciation for outstanding service to the Suwanee River Area Council of Boy Scouts. A camporee with Scouts from Southwest Georgia and Northwest Florida featured a confidence course built by a platoon led by Lt. Smith during the outing. Participants at the ceremony included Sgt Byron Crosby Lt Douglas Smith Capt Earl Bennett Charlie Engle Sgt Ronald Galloway Pfc Marcus Maddox and Chick Harvey.

Court Reverses Consolidation Order in Virginia
The 4th U S Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a landmark ruling ordering consolidation of Richmond city schools with Henrico and Chesterfield counties. In a 5 1 decision the court said the federal judge could not compel a state to restructure internal government for racial balancing unless there is evident discrimination. The decision overturns Judge Merhige’s Jan 10 order. Richmond schools are 64 percent black while Henrico and Chesterfield are predominantly white.
