U S Marines launch a big attack at Chateau Thierry advancing 2 miles and 1 4. 100 prisoners taken. French attack on left wing same time capturing 160 Germans. Marines advance early hour front stretches two and a half miles with two and a quarter miles depth.
American Marines advanced about three and a half kilometres on a four kilometre front capturing 100 prisoners in the Chateau Thierry sector. French troops on the left captured 160 prisoners. Observers say Foch will gain initiative only when American forces strengthen and predict no large counteroffensive for months.
German forces are shifting reserves in a broad front north of the Marne as they plan a new thrust. French reports claim troops east of Sampigny have repelled German crossings of the Oise while experts anticipate an assault on the line from Montdidier to Noyon along the Oise, signaling potential opening moves.
Washington reports that protests are anticipated as the war department notes the German third drive has slowed south of Soissons. Officials warn increased activity northwest of Toul could foretell an impending blow and affect General Foch’s use of American units to bolster lines in the Picardy sector.

The 191-man class graduates a year early due to war. Daniels praises chivalry, life over force, and sacrifice for freedom and principle.
Paris June 6 General Robert L. Michie of the American army died suddenly in a railroad train near Rouen yesterday. News of the U S officer's death comes as Allied forces operate in France during the ongoing conflict. The passing of General Michie marks a notable loss among U S military leadership in Europe.
Washington June 6.7 The notice of General Michie’s teeth came as a shock to the war department and army circles today. He was formerly chief aide to General Hugh L. Scott, the former chief of staff. As Brigadier General, he commanded the 58rd Brigade at Camp Wadsworth S. C. He is a native of Virginia.
Premier Lloyd George returned from the supreme war council in France and is reported as confident about the issue. The London dispatch cites_Ruters parliamentary correspondent as noting confidence in parliamentary lobbies.
Thomasville Georgia June 6 1918 report on the second Red Cross War Fund Drive shows a grand total of 14612 33 with 11284 33 in cash and 3328 60 in pledges. New York reports today that another American tank steamer was sunk by submarines. Details on the vessel and casualties were not immediately available as authorities assess the incident at sea.
The schooner Edward Baird, en route from Jacksonville to New York, was sunk by a submarine 18 miles off Cape Charles Tuesday morning. Captain Coldman and his six crewmen were landed at Atlantic Port today.
About 300 passengers and crew were picked up by the schooner Etza B. Doughlass after the liner Carolina was driven offshore. Seven sailors were landed by a coast guard lifeboat after the rescue near the inlet.
