Veteran Barber Quits Rather Than Integrate in Ohio Town
Yellow Springs barber Lewis Gegner refused to serve Black customers and shut his two chair shop after a civil rights dispute. He faces an Ohio Supreme Court appeal seeking to exempt barbers from anti discrimination law. He plans to leave town but may take a Dayton real estate job. He has 38 years in the trade and says he will retire if needed.
