The ship, chartered by the Soviet fish trust, was bound from Vladivostok, while Soviet authorities deny the mishap and allege sabotage to hinder crew recruitment.
Indictments totaling 96 counts of forging and passing checks were leveled against H. B. Dennis in two Georgia courts. A Macon federal grand jury had earlier returned 15 similar charges, and the local grand jury added 84 counts to the list. Dennis faced 41 counts for forging checks and 41 for passing worthless checks.
Waycross Georgia June 6 C E K Jones chairman of the South Carolina State Highway Department declares there is no pay as you go plan for building state roads. He notes SC relied on county bond issues which raise property taxes and argues highways should be a state matter with a centralized body to locate and finance paving.

W S Creighton of Charlotte presides as the league plans four annual meetings and will elect officers at adjournment after discussions.
The Interstate Commerce Commission ruled proposed through rates on grain and related products from Oklahoma and Kansas to Texas and the southeast milled or stored in transit were unjustified. The increases, pushed by the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific and the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroads, faced protests mainly from millers in southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma.
