Alpha Beta Tri-Hi-Y at Vashti School won the outstanding club of the year award from the Southwest District. Jimmy Gilmer presented the plaque at Award Night at the Scott Hotel last Saturday evening. Elaine Reid led as club president 1966-67 with Barbara Phelps as advisor.
Members of the Green Acres Home Economics Club gathered May 30 at Mr. and Mrs. Guy Willis’s home for a covered-dish family picnic. President Mrs. Willis led a short business meeting and the group voted to sponsor a 4-H girl to Rock Eagle Project Achievement this summer. The June meeting is planned at Mrs. Neel Williamson’s home. Twenty-one members and guests attended.
Michael Stewart a Central High senior led Thomasville Y club delegates to win the district press competition at the State YMCA Youth Assembly held April 6 to 8 in Atlanta. Stewart ranked first among 85 delegates from 20 towns, earning honors for coverage, current composition, reporting security, variety, and volume. He supplied Times-Enterprise and The Stinger with news releases and features, working with Kathy Willis and Susie Anively, who promoted youth assembly coverage in their schools. Stewart’s sixth district win in seven years mirrors prior state winners from the area.
