Tobacco markets in Georgia Florida closed for lack of buyers

Two tobacco markets in Jasper Florida and Claxton Georgia paused auctions due to insufficient buyers. CCC inspectors withdrew at Jasper to resume later, while graders were kept on standby in Claxton to determine buyer availability this week. Prices varied with greens down, other leaf up to four dollars per hundred pounds. Statewide sales Tuesday totaled 8.55 million pounds averaging 44.98 cents. Grady County 4-H Members Head to Southwest Meet

Twenty four Grady County 4-H club members depart Cairo for the Southwest Georgia 4-H Club Achievement Meet at Georgia Southwestern College Americus to compete then advance to Athens for state events. Winners earn trips to national competition in Chicago financed by sponsors.

Donalsonville X ray Clinic Sees 59 Tests

In Donalsonville Georgia a tuberculosis X ray clinic conducted by county nurse Mrs Arthur Reynolds and Regional Consultant Nurse Miss Hilda Patterson examined 34 white patients and 25 colored individuals. The Health Mobile from Atlanta carried the X ray unit and was overseen by Miss Anderson. Food handlers were tested and the clinic will recur about every four months. Contact Mrs Reynolds at the courthouse office on Wednesdays and Saturdays until noon to take the test.

Ochlochnee Schools Reopen Vocational and Home Departments

Ochlochnee Consolidated Schools announce the re opening of Vocational Agriculture and Home Economics departments after a three year closure due to teacher scarcity. Edward L. Cone will lead Vocational Agriculture, Betty Rhodes will teach Home Economics, and W L Higginbotham takes charge of the Veterans Training program. The district will staff with local funds and begin a twelve year school program with the first senior class in 1952. no 1951 graduating class.
