New York July 13 Captain Emilio Carranza flew from Rooseveld Field toward Mexico City on a 2400 mile nonstop attempt. Weather delays and a secret start marked the early hours as he aimed to reach Mexico City after nightfall in about 27 hours with only three mechanics on site.
Police moved fifteen Doukhobor colonists from the town to stop a planned nude parade in protest of a member’s arrest. The group, calling themselves the sons of freedom, had hovered near the jail. authorities warned they would return, but the parade was halted. The sect holds anti authority beliefs and originated in Russia.
Washington advised the exchange that the census bureau will publish June domestic consumption figures tomorrow. May's total was 677 710 bales and June of last year stood at 659 841. British board of trade data showed June exports of cotton yarns at 14 million versus 17 million last June and cloth exports at 278 million yards versus 330 million last year. Dallas News notes West Texas drought and heat marred the crop while overall progress continued elsewhere.
Hamlin Texas reported good showers over a large part of West Texas last night. Lubbock and surrounding areas saw heavy rain while nearby zones had only light showers yesterday.
Masons from across Georgia gathered in Macon to honor Edgar A. McHan secretary of the Georgia Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons who died yesterday. The service at Macon’s lodge home was led by Rev John Swain assisted by Rev Charles L Bass and Rev Hewett Connell. Burial set for Lafayette Saturday. McHan had lived in Macon 12 years and oversaw eight thousand initiations as field representative.
Dr Joseph G Venable pastor of First Presbyterian Church Chattanooga died from an acute heart attack. He was well known in church circles throughout the South.
The Peruvian note approving Secretary Kellogg's proposal to resume full diplomatic relations with Chile reached the State Department, signaling a major step toward resolving the Tacna Arica dispute. Chilean acceptance was delivered to Kellogg this week, enabling a path to negotiation.
