Brunswick Georgia July 7 officer O C Doss stopped A E Miller alias Al Phillips after a tip that his car carried liquor. Doss found twelve thousand dollars in cash along with a sawed off shotgun and a revolver. Miller admitted bootlegging and gave names and addresses before posting a 200 bond and driving away toward the coast.
In Chicago on July 7 John Ubowski, 17, while listening to a radio broadcast, declared he would shoot the announcer. He drew a .22 caliber pistol, fired at the loud speaker, and instead struck Stanley Tristanus, 17, fatally.
Marguerite Goodue aged nine and Francis Goodue seven died after a fire started under their porch in Duluth Minnesota. The siblings fled inside then returned as flames engulfed the house and were burned to death. Their widowed mother collapsed.
Los Angeles dispatch reports film actor Rex Lease arrested on a battery charge filed by Vivian Duncan of the Duncan Sisters. Duncan showed a bruised eye after a party at a Malibu beach home. Lease pleaded not guilty and was held on $500 bail. He was taken into custody at Charles Farrell’s Malibu beach residence.
