Cairo City Manager John Walker told City Council that BOR rejected proposals for a $20,000 recreation grant. He said BOR officials found plans to develop the old landfill site and upgrade existing parks unacceptable.
Five area high school seniors named as DAR Good Citizens for 1975. Includes Ken Stanaland of Ravenwood Academy and other local students. City council discussed recreation plans and land needs for a $40,000 county city program, weighing a joint grant and in kind support against local funds.
Cairo attorney Terry McRae was named 1976 Heart Fund Chairman for Grady County. He will lead February fund drive with goals to educate residents about heart disease and fund local programs. He is joined by Jimmy Grebinger treasurer Beth Hancock and Jim Hines as publicity chair. Funds support heart research at Emory University.
Southern Federal Savings and Loan Association of Thomas County reports year one results with deposits 22 percent above projections and loans 28 percent higher. President Jimmy L. Williams notes 85 mortgage loans in 1975 totaling $1,790,061 and $83,180 in interest paid to depositors. Annual meeting names Mrs. Howard Griffin secretary and Dr. Henry Fielding vice president. others reelected include Williams and Cohen. Directors listed include Cohen, Hay, Fielding, Edelen, Willis, Megahee, Chastain, and Williams. Williams credits strong public reception and community growth for success.
