U S Budget Pushes Georgia River Projects and Dams

President Johnson's budget would fund major Georgia river schemes including Carter’s Dam on the Coosawattee River with a 447 foot high earth rock structure, 1960 feet long, at an estimated total cost of 74.6 million and 5 million yearly hydroelectric output. The plan also includes river harbor development, West Point reservoir work, Sprewell Bluff planning, various surveys, and new post office and courthouse buildings in several cities.

Two Savannah Teens Die In Tattnall County Crash

In Glennville area, two Savannah youths died when their car left a road in Tattnall County and overturned. Jimmy Ferguson 16 and Michael L Loftin 15 were killed when the vehicle struck a tree about three miles south of Glennville, according to the State Patrol.

Texans Deny Release of Georgia Escapee in Dallas

Dallas Texas AP reports Dist Judge Joe B Brown refused to grant habeas corpus relief for Marvin Roberts a 43 year old Georgia fugitive who escaped from a Cherokee County road gang twelve years ago after serving part of a twenty year rape sentence. A new trial motion followed and a Georgia return warrant was signed by Governor John Connally.
