Hope Deat at 24 10 Years and 8 Marriages

Knoxville Tenn Jan 26 AP Jimmy Hope is dead at 24 10 years and by his count eight marriages after his first wedding. His body arrives from Atlanta where his wife Betty discovered him. He died from an overdose of self administered drug, a coroner s jury said. Newsmen dubbed the former Knoxvillian Marryin Jimmy before he was 20 when he said he had been married five times.

Hampton Institute Play Highlights Warren Hatcher Lead

Warren Hatcher of Thomasville Georgia, son of Mrs Marnie Hatcher, senior in General Studies at Hampton Institute, played an Army Officer in The Hampton Story during Founder's Day in Ogden Hall. The dramatic chronicle commemorated Hampton Institute's 81st anniversary and was produced and directed by Lt Martin Bolton of the Communications Center staff.

Meigs Elects Mayor Pittman and Six Aldermen

In Meigs Georgia on January 17 the mayor and six aldermen were sworn in for the year. BF Pittman was reelected mayor followed by aldermen J W Bozeman Dan King Gene Nelms Otto Carter Troy Poitevint and Jon Hurst. Jerry Davis named chief of police and water works superintendent. Carl Cox to night police and Mrs Earl Walden remains city clerk. A city hall business session followed appointments.

Meigs Ga January 25 Mrs Clyde W Sasser hosted the Methodist Woman's Society of Christian Service at her West Marshal Street home. The gathering featured colorful camellias and a green background, with Mrs Sasser presiding over a planned program and refreshments served.

Camellia Show Seeks Wide Bloom Submissions This Weekend

The 1950 Camellia Show chaired by Mrs. Dan Redd will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Junior High School Auditorium in Thomasville. Garden Club sponsors urge local and county growers to exhibit camellias of all types and colors, with twelve judges to determine winners. Proceeds from a silver offering fund the Garden Club Building Fund, and a luncheon will honor judges at Hotel Thomas. Local firemen prepared display shelves, and nurserymen will assist at entry tables closing at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. exhibits limited by division and plant counts.
