Miss Eugenia Barbee daughter of Mr and Mrs H F Barbee of Sarasota Fla married Pfc Nevin Simmons son of R B Simmons of Gainesville Fla in a Wednesday ceremony at First Methodist Church Sarasota Rev George A Foster officiated. Music included Ave Maria I Love You Truly and Oh Promise Me. The couple left for a brief honeymoon. Ms Barbee is a Sears Auditing manager in Sarasota and a Seminal High graduate. Simmons served since 1942 and has been in the Aleutians for 18 months.
Funeral services for Mrs Doyle C Smith 21 wife of Rev Smith Nazarene pastor were conducted at the Nazarene Church in Donalsonville with seventeen preachers present Rev W H Davis district superintendent of the Nazarene Church led the service assisted by local pastors M Walter Flenders M C Liddell and Whitt Aiken Pallbearers included Hubert Williams Lester Williams Charles Quick Arnett Kirkland Weyman Berry Vesta King Hazel Hodges and Frazier Hancock Ushers were Paul Shingler Lonnie Jernigan and Dallas Wurst Interment followed in Donalsonville She left a husband an infant son and daughter a father and mother and four brothers and three sisters.
Dublin Georgia hosts naval and civilian dignitaries for the dedication of the state’s first large naval hospital a 5 million dollar facility with 500 beds ready for navy war wounded and capacity for 1500 patients. It will later be turned over to the veterans administration and expanded to about 10 million dollars.
The Donalsonville Woman's Club met at the home of Mrs. D. F. Wurst on Friday afternoon with Camellias and narcissi decorating the reception rooms. Mrs. Wurst was assisted by Mesdames Earl Wilson and J. B. Thomas. Miss Lillie Seale reported library updates and note nine of the year’s top fifteen best sellers are on the local shelves.
