The month had above normal temperatures with a mean of 54.8 degrees and a high of 77 on the 12th, followed by a late stretch of cold weather. Total precipitation reached 8.13 inches, the wettest December since 1569 aside from two earlier years, with a 5.75 inch wet period from Dec 19 to 24 and an inch of rain in under an hour on the 21st. Sunshine measured 115.2 hours, 17 percent of possible, 13 percent below normal. A partial solar halo occurred on the 23rd, and there were frosts on the 3rd, 5th, 26th, and 29th, with the killing frost on the 29th damaging gardens. The growing season of 1918 lasted 326 days, a new record, compared with 292 in 1905.

A office report states a man with a large force of workers gave No. 161 Tonic to 25 ill men in one day and none died. The tonic formula is disclosed to the public and includes iron for the blood quinine against influenza and magnesia to relieve bowels. It is sold across the South by druggists and dealers.
