Pfc. Jose M. Lopez of Brownsville Texas topped a fierce battle with the Tiger Royal 88 firing 5 600 rounds and killing over a hundred Germans while protecting a unit’s flank. He moved amid thinned lines, changed gun positions six times, and returned with his machine gun after retreat. Lopez, five foot four, fought on, then withdrew with honors and a wife and one son awaiting him.
The National Labor Relations Board has ordered an election to determine collective bargaining representatives at Maywood Hosiery Mills in Cordele Georgia. Maywood Mills manufactures full fashioned hosiery.
Bainbridge Georgia January 15 194? The Bainbridge Junior Chamber of Commerce outlines a plan to reactivate the government post near Bainbridge as an air field or military school. A headquarters at Georgia Power and Light is set, with Louise Austin coordinating all correspondence to Congress and the military.
Bainbridge Ga Jan 15 At a directors meeting of the Citizens Bank and Trust Company R M Reynolds was elected vice president. Reynolds is chairman of the Decatur County Commission and a leading Georgia turpentine operator and director of the American Turpentine Farmers Cooperative Marketing Association.
