Vashti School appeals to local readers and presidents to donate old magazines for library use. Ora Hooper, the librarian, says students use them for scrapbook projects, illustrations, and light reading. Magazines can be dropped off or picked up by the library staff.
The Thomasville Art Guild announces a full scholarship for a high school student to enroll in the adult art class. The course begins Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Youth Center taught by Prof. Leon Mead of F.8.U. and selected by the Guild board for a $15 yearly series.
The January meeting of the Thomas-Brooks County Medical Society Auxiliary will be held at Mrs. William J. Mc Friday's home at 10 a.m. The president Mrs. Rudolph Bell will conduct a brief business session followed by a talk from Dr. Warren Taylor on rescue work and a demonstration of the new mouth-to-mouth form of artificial respiration.
Due to the impact of The Ugly American the Thursday Study Class will devote the full hour to Miss Marie Wertz review of the book. Mrs W W Jarrell announced the change and said Miss Daisy Neel's review The Diplomat has been postponed.
Misa Ethel Ogburn Scott daughter of Mrs. J C Scott is named to the dean’s list for fall at Georgia State College in Atlanta. She is a student in the School of Arts and Sciences and ranks in the upper five percent of her class. James F. Clark Jr. of Route 1 Boston is noted for not having any grade lower than the quarter just completed.
The Flies rehearse for the 1960 Follies with eye catching costumes credited to the Carghill wardrobe department led by Al Burke, former Thomasville director. Tonight’s schedule lists opening at 7:30, Beatniks at 8, Mardi Gras waltz at 8:30, Western hoedown at 9, and Petunia Girl at 9:30.
Mrs Henry M Cutler and Mrs Al Brown hosted an afternoon tea at the Cutler home for Miss Jackie Ponder bride Elect Heath Varnedee Jr. about 25 guests attended with camellia decorations and a lace runner table. Mrs R L Ponder mother of the bride poured tea as Mrs Charles Ferguson and Mrs Joe Palmer assisted. A silver fruit dish was presented to Miss Ponder by her hosts.
The Mothers March on Polio event will be held January 28 in Asville, led by Mrs. Herbert Whitfield chairing. Volunteers are urged to contact her or district chairmen, with phone numbers listed for five districts. Ronald Ellison serves as campaign chairman for the Thomas County March of Dimes.
Pelham volunteers led by Mrs. W. B. Ryan launched the 1960 March of Dimes drive with the Pelham PTA sponsoring the Mother's March likely in January. Glenn Truluck Hi- Club and B. P. W. Club aid by distributing coin collectors, posters, and mailers as the drive kicked off with a Camilla dinner meeting.
Cairo High School honored its “Mr. Cairo High” Art Williams and “Miss Cairo High” Elva Bussey after a school auditorium coronation. The ceremony featured a star themed setting, voter ballots listing many peers, and recognition for mothers and a basketball trophy displayed in the lobby.
Richard Collins baritone and Florida State University faculty pianist Robert Glotzbach will perform a recital at Opperman Music Hall in Tallahassee at 8:18 p m on Friday January 15. The program opens with an 18th century Italian aria and includes Schubert songs and pieces by Chopin Mendelssohn Ravel and 20th century composers.
The New Hope Community Club approved plans for a public square dance on January 29 at the Community Center. A1adults will pay a $1 admission with proceeds benefiting the New Hope Club. Jack Crocker led the meeting with community figures and Don Haskins discussed club goals and community impact.
Mrs. Bessie Price and Mr. E Q O Chastain announce the birth of Cynthia Dianne to Mr. and Mrs Paul Price at St Vincent's Hospital Jacksonville on January 3. The child is named and noted as granddaughter of the Chastains. Archbold Memorial Hospital records show another Thomasville birth of the Harrington family’s third child and second son on January 12.
