Richard Mitchell 76 of 409 Hington Ave died Monday at Archbold Memorial Hospital after several days as a patient in ill health. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Kirkland Cray Hughes Funeral Home with the Rev Louis Kennedy of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial in Laurel Hill cemetery. He was a son of late Judge Robert G and de Fondren Mitchell of Ochlaw County and married Minnie Williams. Survived by one son, tard Mitchell Jr of Atlanta, two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and siblings including Mrs. H B Puller of Thomasville. He attended Thomasville schools and operated a shoe store, later in fire and casualty insurance and real estate. He was a charter member of the Men’s Bible Class of the First Baptist Church.

March of Dimes volunteers plan a balloon sale downtown this Saturday to raise funds for the birth defect fight. The National Foundation reports about 250000 children are born yearly with serious birth defects.
A passing driver dropped a burning cigarette on the dry centipede lawn at 102 Springdale Circle, threatening shrubbery and flowers and nearly reaching the house. A maid and Mrs. Homer H. Berger quickly extinguished the fire, prompting a caution to smokers to avoid throwing burning items from cars.
