The market moved irregularly in active trading with the Dow up 42 to 626.14 at noon. Steels, drugs, oils, and aircrafts rose while rails were mixed and farms and electrical equipment fell. Corporate bonds were uneven and governments held firm as trading remained quiet.
Hog receipts totals for a 24 hour period ending 7 a.m. include 4,490 at Georgia plants in Albany Columbus Moultrie Thom exiled Gaew Dethan and Florida Jacksonville with steady-to-weak tone. Chicago receipts 7,500 hogs show mixed grades and prices mostly 16.60 to 18.10 per cwt for barrows and gilts with sow trading firmer. Georgia cattle auctions report 2,965 head across Atlanta Camilla Douglas Macon and Sylvania with slaughter steers 23.00-26.90 and calves 24.00-25.50, markets largely steady to lower on cows and bulls.
Receipts 2600 Tuesday at Camilla Douglas Camilla Arton Samson and nearby markets show prices down 26 to 50 cents. Barrows and gilts 200 to 240 pounds 16.75 to 17.30. Sows and stocker calves priced across common to good ranges.
William Jack Phinazee Sr., 66, died after years of illness in Archbold Memorial Hospital. funeral services set for 3 p.m. Thursday at Big Creek Baptist Church with ministers Marion Mayo Avery and Cham McMillen. Interment in Big Creek Cemetery. Survivors include son William J. Shorty Phinaree, daughter Mrs. Harry Murphy, brother Paul Phina ree, sister Mrs. Maude Dixon, and 10 grandchildren. Dekle Funeral Chapel in charge.
Lee Johnson 67 of 167 Lawson aL died at home Tuesday after a sudden illness. Funeral services are set for 2 PM Thursday at Whiddon's Funeral Home chapel with Rev. James W. Tomlinson of Cairo officiating. Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Johnson active in the turpentine business and survived by his wife, a daughter in Havana Florida, a son in Thomasville, two sisters, an aunt, four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Produce trading was light in Atlanta with most prices steady. Cabbage 1.15 to 1.35 per bag. bushel turnip greens 1.75 to 2.25. mustard greens 2.00 per bushel. bunched turnips 2.00 to 2.50 per dozen. collards 1.50 to 1.78 per dozen.
Poultry prices at Georgia farms and plants shown with offerings short of needs. Fryers 4 to 8 pounds priced 15 to 17 cents per pound at farms. Hens heavy type 20 cents fob plants. Light type 10 to 12 cents fob plants. Prices noted for Tuesday and today.
Six new contestants have entered the annual beauty pageant for the Thomas County Livestock Association. The banquet and contest take place Thursday at Central High School at 7 30 p m. The queen winner may compete for Miss Georgia Livestock of 1961 in Tifton. Association officers and directors will be elected. Entrants include Eugenia Hogg Sue Ellis Camille Titus II Margaret Barrett Cherie Crasby and Mildred Parramore, all of Thomasville.
ATLANTA AP reports Georgia's House of Representatives has 201 members with 199 Democrats. The balance shows two Republicans in the chamber amid party distribution details.
Thomasville Lodge No. 369 F and A M will hold a public installation of new officers at 7:30 p.m. Thursday with Worshipful Master N B Grant announcing a supper during the meeting. R L Singletary of Thomasville will serve as installation officer.
In Meigs yesterday a mayor and three councilmen were chosen. Tom Smith, Bank of Meigs cashier, was elected mayor for one year succeeding Mac Palmer. Unopposed councilmen are D. B. Summerford A. R. Dasher and James Williams, who will each serve two years without pay.
Clyde E. Norwood, assistant postmaster, announced postal receipts for 1960 at $232,393.98, up from $216,884.09 in 1959. The increase is $15,419.89, a 7.1 percent rise.
The City of Thomasville completed a 118000 dollar street paving program in 1960, with 18 streets included as part of a 750000 dollar plan started in 1958. City officials report continued paving and other projects, including an industrial park and a 260000 dollar sewer expansion grant, while listing the past year’s street lengths for multiple streets.
Chairman J. W. Keyton of the Board of County Commissioners was chosen to serve again as presiding officer for the current year. Board members voted unanimously to reappoint him as chairman, a role he has held continuously for 14 years. Committee chairmanships and the general organization stay the same.
