New Orleans February 42. The Southern Association directors voted to decide the baseball championship by a four team playoff at season end. A Dixie series between pennant winners of the Southern Association and the Texas League was approved, with a 1654 game schedule from April 16 to September 15 under the Shaughnessy system. The four top teams in the Texas League enter a best-of-five for finals, then winners meet in a best-of-seven for the title.
