The committee chair described a seventh and final plan to restore business activity. He argued prices must fall or stay near prewar levels to help the public afford goods while manufacturers can operate at modest profit margins. He favored labor and capital participation to revive production rather than full shutdowns.
City officials in New Orleans on August 7 indicated no need to launch sewer and street improvement work programs to provide jobs for the idle. The decision follows a threat of jail edict aimed at reducing idleness and begging. Teduce idleness remains the stated aim as unemployment levels are not seen as urgent enough to justify immediate public works.
In a special session Judge Thomas presided over the trial of Ralph Wilson charged with rape. The grand and petit juries were sworn and witnesses testified as the victim recounted the assault and identification process. Defense and state called multiple witnesses and the case proceeded to the next page for continuation.
Reports from Asheville North Carolina dated February 7 say an abandoned hospital now used as a hotel will be turned into a vocational training center by the federal board of national training. A five year lease announced by board officials includes adjoining farmland. Maximum enrollment of three hundred is planned.
In Hamilton Alabama on February 7 a mistrial was declared in the case of Sergeant Robert Lancaster linked to the lynching of William Baird near Jasper on January 13. The jury discharged after 48 hours deliberation with differing verdict options and no date set for a retrial. a second trial for another defendant was scheduled for February 21. Nine defendants remain jailed.
A jury in Sumrall Mississippi awarded Charles H Franck former vice president of the Mississippi Federation of Labor ten thousand seven hundred fifty dollars for rotten eggs and brickbats thrown at him last August. The verdict holds three Superintendents of the J J Newman Lumber Company responsible. the company itself was found blameless.
On board Pennsylvania February 7 War time routine is observed as Atlantic fleet ships sail south from Callao to join the Pacific squadron moving north from Valparaiso. The two squadrons are expected to meet for a simulated battle to resemble real wartime conditions on the high seas.
Admiral Rodman commander of the U S Pacific fleet placed his ships in battle formation at Santiago on February 7 in anticipation of a major engagement with the Atlantic squadron. The two fleets, after leaving Valparaiso, are expected to collide off the northern coast for a decisive battle.
In Thomasville Georgia on February 5 1921 Lee Battle a 45 year old negro was killed after attacking W J Harrell and Ed B Butler on Fletcher and Stevens streets. Harrell struck Battle with a buggy shaft after a knife wound left Harrell injured. The coroner ruled the death justifiable, finding Battle died from head injuries inflicted by the shaft and noting the knife lay beneath him. The two white men were released from custody.
Three men riding outside Meith to peta near Wilkes attacked Mr Stanaland after he refused a hold up. A gun was leveled, a blunt blow knocked him unconscious, and money and valuables were taken. He was treated in Meigs and sent home resting well. police are alert along the route to capture the suspects.

The American Legion executive committee in Washington on February 7 weighs the Knights of Columbus offer of five million dollars for a war memorial building in the capital. A sub committee has recommended acceptance and the full committee is expected to act.
