Palm Beach Florida February 7 AP Louise Suggs of Lithia Springs Georgia and Marjorie Row of Anniston Alabama meet in the second round of the Palm Beach women’s golf tournament. Suggs advanced by defeating Mrs Georgie Miller of Miami 5 and 2. Row won a 19th hole decision over Mrs Marge Becker of West Englewood New Jersey.

Montgomery Alabama February 7 AP local selective service board No 3 in rural Houston county resigns and a new draft board is named. Col James T Johnson Jr state selective service director says the group of farm workers under 24 was classified 2 C then appeals board placed them in 1 A. Board members argued farmers were needed in agricultural work.
Cpl. Warnell Tillman of Savannah returned home from Europe after intercession by President Roosevelt and aid from the Red Cross. He met his mother Mrs. T. H. Tillman at Delair Hospital, with sister Mrs. Marvin Jones arranging the trip. Tillman has the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Ribbon with Bronze Star, and the Silver Star.
The Southern Baptist Convention executive committee calls for a senate foreign relations committee investigation into U S government relations with the Vatican and into a Baptist leader's correspondence with the State Department. The 19 states plus the District of Columbia backing the move urged Chairman Tom Connally to order an immediate inquiry.
A two year old boy died and three other family members were critically burned after an explosion and fire in Louisville Georgia. About 2,000 workers at Southeastern Shipbuilding in Savannah and 2,200 at J A Jones Shipbuilding in Brunswick will be released soon. State War Manpower Director Thomas Quigley said Brunswick crews will depart within 60 days and Southeastern workers will be released gradually as recruiters move in this week and next.
A Swedish traveler reported that women wearing Volkssturm armbands patrolled Berlin streets and barricades while Volkssturm men were trained in street fighting by veterans who fought at Cassino and Aachen.
