The Thomasville field office of the Public Buildings Service GSA won the region-wide contest for federal building operation for 1064 and 1068. James W. Fields presented plaques at a Federal Building ceremony. The office covers southwestern Georgia managing the Thomasville and Moultrie buildings and the OODOMP Regional Headquarters in Thomasville.

Solicitor Pay Increase Plan Backed By Sanders

Gov. Sax and aides plan to back a bill in January to raise solicitors general pay by 200 dollars a month funded from a supplemental budget. About 40 solicitors statewide would gain to 4,900 dollars a year in expense allowances while emeritus solicitors miss the increase. The plan notes current salaries vary and Supreme Court and Court of Appeals judges may also receive raises, with Sanders backing similar rises for high court members.

Oberlin Theology School to Merge with Vanderbilt Divinity

The Graduate School of Theology of Oberlin College will merge with Vanderbilt University Divinity School after this academic year. Oberlin’s 110 year old school with 113 students will be moved to Nashville, joining Vanderbilt which has capacity for 80 students.

Cardinal Gardinal Arrives in Saigon for Christmas with US Troops

Francis Cardinal Gardinal, 77, vicar of the U S armed forces, arrived in Saigon from New York to spend his 15th consecutive Christmas with American soldiers overseas. He said the United States is fighting for peace in Viet Nam and stressed that soldiers understand this purpose.

Thomasville Soldier Reported Killed in Viet Nam

A Thomasville soldier, LeRoy Jones, was listed as a casualty of the Viet Nam war by the U S Army. He was killed by enemy small arms fire during a combat operation on Dec 21. His mother, Mrs Mya Ruby Jones of 214 Davis St, was notified yesterday. Jones served with Company B 16th Infantry known as Hambone. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

Venician sues town over 8.26 million for detainment

Paul Gordon of Venice Florida sent Greenfield Massachusetts a bill for 8 260 000 dollars claiming inconvenience after being detained three days last summer for driving without a license. Town Treasurer John Akey said the town does not expect to pay.

Atlanta hires its first Negro woman judge

Atlanta swore in Mrs. R Pruden Herndon as a Municipal Court traffic judge, making her the first Black woman to hold the post. Herndon, admitted to the bar in 1943, had been an associate of the late T Walden, the prior Black Municipal Court judge.

Fireworks Blast Kills Four Children In Georgia Home

In Oconee County near Westminster, four Young children died from a fireworks explosion. Ricky died at the scene while twins James and Jeffrey and Juanita died later in hospitals from severe burns. The incident occurred as the family stored fireworks in a small store behind their home. An inquest is expected with no charges yet contemplated.
