Santa Fe N M December 22 The state Supreme Court held the governor may pardon direct contempt of court Magee Albuquerque editor had sought habeas corpus to challenge the pardon The case stemmed from Magee’s remark during a libel trial I deny that this is a court He also faces manslaughter charges in the Las Vegas district case arising from an altercation with District Judge D Z Leahy.

South Carolina Man Kills Wife Then Attempts Self Harm
Orangeburg S C December 22 Mrs Dora B Way a local political figure was shot and killed by her husband Allen Way at their home. Way then wounded himself with a pistol and is in serious condition at Orangeburg city hospital. A son Allen Way Jr wrestled with him and was injured as he later found a shotgun and fired into his own shoulder. The family disputes over turkey sales were cited by officers. Mrs Way had twice run for the legislature and was active in public affairs. Her father Dr W S Barton was a notable figure in state politics.
