Christmas party at Baptist Church hosts 38 children

The Christmas party Tuesday evening at the Baptist Church was led by the superintendent with Mrs Reuber Roberts Mrs Collie Th and Mrs Dorothy Holver assisting. A devotional period and Christmas carols followed the Little Lame Christmas Tree story Santa Claus visited and fruit candy were shared. 38 children and 60 adults attended.

Cairo Suffers Major Power Outage From Burned Out Line

Cairo experienced its most severe electric disruption in years as an overloaded line into the city plant burned out. The outage left the city without power for about an hour late Tuesday and a 45 minute interruption the day before, with temporary repairs restoring service.

Miss Margaret Garrison Visits Mercer Campus Sings in CEI Program

Miss Margaret Garrison Ochlochnec graduate of Mercer University and instructor in Thomasville Public Schools visited the Mercer campus. She sang as a former soprano soloist with the Mercer Acappella Choir during the annual Messiah presentation at First Baptist Church. The performance aired on the radio and TV across December.

Fire damages Cairo blue gable drive in eatery

Workmen repair fire damaged Blue Gable in northern Cairo. The drive in restaurant, run by J N Harvey, had reopened after remodeling. Fire may have started from faulty wiring or spontaneous combustion on the second floor. Police spotted the blaze and aided firefighters. Damages pegged at several hundred dollars.

Four Men Including Banks County Sheriff Go On Trial

Four men from Homer including Banks county Sheriff Farris Brewer and deputies George W. Brewer Ernest Mason are on trial in a federal court in Gainesville for conspiracy to violate internal revenue laws. Henry Coker, 40, completes the group.
