Electric shares rose as Nickel and Ting advanced, with Eléctric posting steadier gains. Markets showed cautious optimism as steel and automotive sectors moved modestly higher.
Estimated hog receipts totaled 3400 at major Georgia packing plants including Albany Moultrie Thomasville Tifton Dothan and Jacksonville. Prices varied by weight and grade with No 1 No 2 and 3 lots around 14 to 17 dollars for 180-240 lb barrows and gilts and mixed grades 140-180 lb at 13 to 15 dollars. Chicago receipts 9000 hogs with prices 16.75 to 17.35 for 190-230 lb barrows and gilts. Georgia cattle trade slow with calves steady to lower. New York cotton futures down 30 cents to 1 dollar.
Sen elect Herman Talmadge and his family bought a Falls Church Virginia home on a half acre, about ten miles from Washington. They plan to move after Christmas. the price is not disclosed but estimated at 845000. The four bedroom house includes a play room and an office.
On the Atlanta produce market, trade was fair on Thursday and Friday with prices largely unchanged. Georgia greens and turnips sold within narrow ranges while cabbage, collards, and Florida vegetables showed steady or varied prices across several items.
Market notes show unsettled broilers at farms 15 to 16 cents per pound and 16 to 17 cents f o b plants. Hens market steady with heavy type at farms 17 to 19 cents and f o b plants 18 to 19 cents. light type too few to report at farms and 16 to 16 cents f o b plants.
Colquitt County farmer Frank Musgrove of Moultrie admitted owning two moonshine stills near Meigs in a hearing before U S Commissioner William J. Trowell. He pledged two bonds of one thousand dollars each. Federal and state agents seized and destroyed the stills, one yesterday and one on November 16. Musgrove faces trial in the federal court here in May.
J Candler Austin recuperating after operation at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. Ola Powell of Pelham visited Meigs friends Wednesday. Jerry Davis recently visited Thomasville and Pelham. Mr and Mrs Dan King staying in Plant City and Tampa Florida. Mrs King underwent eye surgery in Tampa and is resting nicely.
MacDonald Thomas 65 died Thursday after a long illness. The Rev Joseph Bridges will lead services Saturday with a large honorary escort listed. He was married November 20 1917 to Sareh Scott and affiliated with Scott Construction Company. Survived by wife, sister Barbara Lyon Oklahoma City five nieces and three nephews. He was a Mason Shriner and member of the First Christian Church of Valdosta.
Police reports say two cars collided at the North Broad and Clay Street intersection yesterday around 6 30 pm. Driver Paul Rich of 3174 North Fair Street and Fondren Wilcox of 107 North Madison were involved. minor damage only reported.
Larry Powell of Pelham was a Meigs visitor recently, meeting locals and touring the town. The brief stop highlighted Powell’s engagement with regional community events and networks.
The Thomas County Chapter of the American Red Cross asks for clothing and furniture donations for two families who lost all possessions in a house fire. Arrangements can be made to pick up and deliver items to the homeowners. Call 6-218.
