Carol Ann Owen daughter of Mr and Mrs Hudson Owen celebrated her fifth birthday Monday afternoon in Donalsonville. The party hosted by her mother drew about one hundred guests who enjoyed a pink nylon net dress blue rosebud decor a two tier cake and ice cream. Family members including Mrs John N Drake Sr and Mrs J T Saunders attended and gifts were exchanged with favors given to each child.
Donalsonville residents and Seminole county farmers face a Department of Entomology drive to stamp out the 6Weet potato weevil. Identified in December 1949, quarantine lines extend one mile around infestations, with no potato planting allowed this year and hopes for freedom from the pest next year.
Gov. Herman Talmadge proclaimed September 10 to 17 as Soil Conservation Week in Georgia. Walter R. Brown of the State Agriculture Extension Service announced the designation.
A new tropical hurricane gathering near the Leeward Islands prompts hurricane warnings for Dominica Martinique and nearby French British and Dutch territories. The storm moves northwest at about 10 to 12 miles per hour with center approximately 110 miles east of Guadeloupe and 1600 miles from the Florida coast. It originated in the same system that produced another Gulf Coast hurricane a decade ago.
