The dying tropical hurricane blew through south Alabama causing high winds and heavy rain. Major damage was to crops with crippled communications. roads and railways reported only minor impact as winds reached about 50 mph at Flomaton near the Florida line.
Palmar Florida Aug 1 The tug Minnie Lee reported capsized during a tropical hurricane weathered the storm with all five crew safe A M Hyer operator said Captain Walter Brown and four seamen were found safe The Minnie Lee sank in Choctawhatchee Bay earlier reports said the crew was missing Coast guardsmen continued searching gulf waters for other vessels The storm caused light damage inland with some homes and lines affected though warnings saved many lives
Gladys MacKnight 17 and Donald Wightman 18 were arraigned in Bayonne New Jersey on murder charges for killing the girl's mother with a hatchet after a quarrel over supper and a tennis date. Police said both confessed, with Wightman initially admitting to striking the blow while the girl held the victim. The pair were held without bail as grand jury action looms.

Franklin reported last night from Madrid that the committee took over the Ford and GM facilities and sent a letter to GM officials on July 30 in Barcelona.
