Four new directors took office Paul Miller Rochester Democrat and Chronicle Robert B Choate Boston Herald James M North Fort Worth Star Telegram and Harry F Byrd Jr Winchester Stay Miller became AP director after serving as assistant general manager in charge of the Washington Bureau. Kent Cooper remains executive director and Frank J Star sel is general manager.
An Ohio couple Dr. and Mrs. O. J. Foster of Warsaw and two Georgia women were killed in separate highway crashes. Mrs. Foster died at the scene near Dawson, while her husband later died in Albany hospital. Mrs. Bruce Schofield, 22, of Fort Valley, died when her car struck a log truck after losing control in mud. A Savannah woman, Miss Curtis Cecille Lyons, 22, died near Bluffton, South Carolina, when her vehicle overturned after hitting a soft shoulder. Passenger Thomas C. Helmly Jr. of Savannah survived.
Cedartown Georgia April 26 APD plans for ground breaking ceremonies for the first low rent public housing project built under the 1949 housing act will begin May. The 54 unit project will house families with local labor and materials used where possible. Batson-Cook Co. is the contractor.
Macon Ga April 26 AP Georgia's 1950 peach crop will be slim if preliminary estimates prove correct W C Bewley president of the Georgia fruit exchange estimated a maximum of 2100 car loads will be shipped This would be slightly less than last year and about 5000 carloads less than normal The North Georgia crop has been reported a complete failure Bewley said estimates indicated 1350 cars will be shipped from the area south of Macon and 750 cars from the area between Macon and Atlanta
