Born November 19 1858 he graduated from the State University in 1877 and read law before drifting to other pursuits. He served as president of the Thomas county board of education and was a trustee of Young Female College. Funeral held at the Presbyterian church with Rev E D McDougall delivering a sermon from First Corinthians. He was laid to rest at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Judge Hansell dismissed the writ of habeas corpus sworn by L H Wests lawyers to stop transfer to Virginia.
