A. Rehberg, 48, longtime deputy sheriff, seeks election to Sheriff in Thomas County after 11 years in office management. Health officials traced a stramonium food poisoning outbreak in Hawkins County Tennessee to grafting tomato plants to jimson weed. The CDC said attempts to produce larger cold resistant tomatoes led to poisonous plant parts entering the fruit and five people falling ill with hallucinations blurred vision disorientation weakness thirst vertigo and nausea after eating home grown tomatoes.
The Associated Press weekend fatality count records six deaths due to traffic accidents and one drowning in Georgia. Victims include Thomas Boney 38 of Jesup killed on U S 341 in Wayne County. Benjamin Murry Oden 16 of Macon drowned at High Falls state park. William Larry Dixon 19 of Athens killed in a U S 129 crash. Billy Gene Coody 28 of Dublin and Henry Stanton Mayo 19 of Wrightsville injured fatally when their car hit an embankment near Dublin. Kenneth E. Brooks 48 of Waycross died in a collision on U B 84 near Waycross. Martha Pharis 25 of Warner Robins killed on Georgia 17 near Albany.
Dutch Queen Juliana will not attend the Rome wedding of her daughter Princess Irene to Prince Carlos of Bourbon Parma. The April 29 ceremony in St Mary Major follows strain between the Dutch royal family and Irene’s betrothed, amid government efforts to avoid ties to Carlos’ Spanish throne campaign.
