Bucharest reports the Romanian senate provisionally accepted a government bill granting Germany a 30 year lease on nearly 100000 acres of timber. Army officers warned the move imperils national defense while agriculture minister Ionescu Sisesti argued it benefits Romania.
In Memphis Tennessee a parade scene sparked by youths shouting there goes a German tank led to a volley of rocks ripping into a passing truck. Two boys were fined $25 each for their part as the incident prompted a police response.
In Memphis on April 17 1944 police arrested a Black man for riding a bicycle with 42 lights and reflectors that did not work. The incident follows a campaign against bicycles without lights despite his intentions.
