The Allied naval effort off Norway draws praise as a moral victory for Britain and France. Churchill and the Admiralty leadership inspire confidence while neutrals reassess support amid fears of further Nazi expansion into Sweden and the Balkans.
Georgia shows cloudy warm conditions with interior thundershowers tonight and Friday showers, colder conditions by Friday night. Florida reports partly cloudy skies with warmer north, showers possible in the north by night and Friday, cooling later. Alabama forecasts cloudy thundershowers with colder air in the west and north, freezing in extreme northwest, and strong coastal winds turning northerly.
Wireless reports from the Norwegian commander say Bergen is back in Norwegian hands as forces mass for an attack on Trondheim. German planes bomb Kongsvinger as Norwegians blast bridges and fortify defenses with civilians aiding in the effort.
In Churchill's House of Commons speech Britain’s navy and air power are hailed as driving the Allied path to victory. Germany claims tightened control in Norway with several ships sunk or damaged and Denmark's Bornholm under Nazi influence.
In Thomas County byes yesterday, most incumbents were re elected with large majorities and no runoffs. Sheriff Charlie M Dixon led a five candidate field with 453 more votes than his four opponents while former Sheriff Gordon FE Davis trailed with 750 votes.
The page four election table lists candidates and votes for second place. Lonnis Miller, a Boston area planter, placed third with 349 votes, closely followed by C. S. DeDnnard of Thomasville with 32 votes. J. N. Butler, a prominent Thomasville resident, finished fifth with 47 votes as Sheriff Dixon sponsors his four year record for endorsement.
Allied claims of a major naval victory over Germany describe 18 German ships sunk including four cruisers and ten troop transports with allied losses at four ships. Norway reports Bergen recaptured and other forces massing to retake Trondheim as Britain and France respond to the crisis.
