Three old landmark houses were torn down recently to make way for parking and new offices. The 122 E Jefferson St. house next to the Scott Hotel was bought by Fred Scott Jr. to serve hotel and J C Penney customers as a parking lot. The Crawford Street homes at 112 and 110 were razed to house the Georgia State Employment Agency and MacIntyre Edwards Inc offices respectively. The Peacock and Pittman houses were noted for their old timber construction and hand hewn beams.

Easter Egg Hunt Set By Merchants In City
The Retail Merchants Assn of Thomasville sponsors an Easter egg hunt for children under 11 in Paradise Park with two age brackets. Six and under search 2 to 3 pm while 7 to 11 year olds hunt 4 to 5 pm. Prizes come from participating Thomasville merchants. a supervising adult or teen is required. Merchants will stay open all day Wednesday and until 9 pm Friday to support Easter shoppers.

Employment gains lift March payrolls to record highs
Employment continued from page one up 2.9 million with factory workers averaging 111.22 dollars weekly. Manufacturing hires surged in March pushing total factory employment to a record 18.6 million, up 1 million year over year. Major gains occurred across construction, trade, services and government. The work week rose to 41.5 hours with overtime at 8.9 hours.

Bombing strikes hit bases near Vinh and Hue in Vietnam
Reports describe bombing of Hay Yen and Phuoc Loi naval bases near Vinh and a Viet Cong assembly point 25 miles west of Hue by B52s from Guam. Despite heavy activity, U.S. ground operations in South Vietnam reported only light contact as patrols continue in Da Nang, 1st Corps. Vietnamese forces in the Mekong Delta claimed 83 Viet Cong killed on a reconnaissance mission with air strikes destroying another 50. No government casualties were reported.

Thomas Humphrey of 207 Lester St. died Friday at Archbold Memorial Hospital. The funeral was at People's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. A native of Thomas County, he was a laborer son of John and Ethel Humphrey. Civil Defense Director G Wes Gunn estimated Polk County property damage would exceed 20 million dollars after a tornado touched down in the Lakeland area. Lakeland General Hospital administrator Sherwood D Smith reported about 60 people sought care in the first two hours, starting with a bus load from Southwest Junior High School as a roof collapsed and debris injured students. By day’s end at least 92 treated and 11 admitted countywide injuries were reported, with Civil Defense estimating 180 injuries overall.

Prisoner Found Hanged In Glynn County Jail
James Joseph Daly 65, a retired Binghamton insurance broker, was found hanging in a Glynn County jail cell at 1 40 a.m. Daly was jailed on an open murder suspicion after his wife Ruth Daly was shot 15 times. Autopsy and pistol use indicators pointed to multiple weapons. Mrs Daly survives a sister in Chenango Bridge.
