Gen Lester Maddox announced an extension of at least 20 days for buying 1969 automobile tags in Georgia. He urged county tax collectors to suspend penalties on ad valorem taxes for cars during the same period, citing hardship from the near tax deadline. The original tag deadline is April 1 and tax penalties were 5 percent on ad valorem taxes and 10 percent on tags. Maddox proposed adding until June at latest, with a firm date to follow.
