A jumble of verse praising Erin merges with Civil War reminiscences and postwar letters. The piece cites Irish patriotic lines, a Kentucky or Ohio letter on Ku Klux Klan activity, and reflections on General Grant’s career, interwoven with anecdotes about Dabney the scout and Grant’s leadership, plus other Civil War era vignettes and editorials.
Nevada June 2 1868 reports the dedication of the new Methodist Episcopal Church at Oeeels Crawford County with services on May 24. Rev. Dr. Warner preached the dedicatory sermon from Psalm 127:1. The 32 by 54 foot wood building with bell and belfry cost 2000, debt 1500, later funded by subscriptions. A Sabbath School was organized and a library funded. Also notes a presidential pardon for John Sims convicted of counterfeiting in 1967 and criticizes Mr Johnson's pardons as misguided and detrimental. Includes a light publisher’s note on a county editor’s duties and wages.
The Ohio General Assembly enacts penalties to prevent ballot marking by others and requires plain white ballots without distinguishing marks. Offenders face fines up to fifty dollars, up to ten days in jail, and civil penalties up to one hundred dollars per offense. Repeals earlier 1861 act and sets effective date.
