Special Recess Commission created by the Legislature to study sewage disposal in Metropolitan Boston will hold a public hearing in Winthrop Town Hall at 7:30 p m on Friday September 9. Chairman Hon David Belcher urged early room approval and attendance by North Shore residents. The hearing follows reports of unsanitary Boston Harbor conditions and calls for proper treatment of raw sewage dumped at Deer Island Nut Island and Moon Island.

Warning Issued to Cemetery Vandals in Winthrop
Last Friday night four memorials in Winthrop Cemetery were toppled and path signs uprooted. The Cemetery Commissioners publish Massachusetts General Laws warning offenders will be prosecuted to the full extent, citing Chapter 272 Section 73 protecting tombs and memorials.

Winthrop Receives Town Share From State Highway Fund
The Legislature adjourned after an extended session and appropriated $5,000,000 for highway construction statewide. Winthrop is estimated to receive about $18,000 for street projects intended to create employment and reduce welfare liabilities.
Boston Harbor Yachts to Race at Cottage Park Regatta
The annual Labor Day Regatta will launch next Saturday off Cottage Park Yacht Club host to harbor racing yachts. A record fleet is expected with new classes and adjustments to old ones. The line forms opposite the Winthrop Channel dolphin, Point Shirley offers viewing, and the clubhouse opens for three days with refreshments for skippers and crews. races start with horn blast this year.
