Local Garden Club Flower Show to Feature Clubs Exhibits

The Annual Flower Show of The Garden Club of Winthrop on June 14 and 15 will spotlight a special class for clubs and organizations. Chairs include Edith Newton Popular Authors Literary Club, Louise Field for U, Ruth Colsen for Winthrop Woman's Club Garden Club, Elizabeth Blandford for Young Woman's Club, and Robert A Walsh for W.J. and Hist. Assn. Other clubs assign chairs later. Mine Williams Moore will oversee entries with Galla Covington. indoor planting corner showcases an artist nook, and Junior Exhibits occupy a large tent outside.

Count Garibaldi to Speak at Winthrop Association Meeting

The Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association will hold its regular monthly meeting in the Barn on Tuesday evening June 4. All members and interested parties are invited. A supper of lobster or chicken salad will be served at 6:30 before Count Giuseppe Garibaldi, Colonel of Avia, addresses the gathering.

Winthrop Yacht Club marks 51st anniversary gala

The Winthrop Yacht Club held its fifty first opening night at the club house on May 25 attended by over 250 members and guests. Attorney General Paul Dever was guest speaker delivering an engaging talk. The event featured dinner and entertainment with additional guests and speeches.

Hospital Receives 517 Dollar Gift for Corridor Tile

The Community Hospital gains a rubber tile floor for the first floor corridor funded by an out of town philanthropist after plans to tile the entire building were cut for budget reasons. Trustee presented a check for 517.72 covering the cost of the Stedmar rubber tile totaling about 1000 feet. Mrs. Fritz Westlin hosted Such-A-Club members for a Wednesday gathering at Elmer Avenue with all attendees enjoying the evening.

Baseball Movie At Elks To Benefit Winthrop Youths

A two reel sound film Play Ball will be shown at Winthrop Lodge of Elks Friday June 7 to benefit Winthrop youngsters with no admission charge. The event is led by Andrew A. Biggio and features baseball stars, with George Moriarty attending. Red Sox and Yankee players may also attend. Details for the program will appear next week.

Graduation of Eileen Cronin from Children’s Hospital School of Nursing

Miss Eileen Cronin, daughter of Mr and Mrs Eugene Cronin of Washington avenue, graduates with the class of 1935 from the Children’s Hospital School of Nursing on Longwood avenue Brookline. The May 23 exercises and reception were held in Simmons College Assembly Hall and Gardner House, largely attended by relatives and friends.

Townwide store hours extended to 2 a m in summer

The Board of Selectmen extended common victuallers licenses closing hours. Summer closing shifts from midnight to 2 a m while winter hours move from midnight to 1 a m. Stores previously closing at midnight may operate until 2 a m during summer.

Reverend Albert Butler Assigned to Our Parish

Rev Albert Butler of Malden celebrated his first Mass at home last Sunday and has been assigned to John the Evangelist Church. A Holy Cross graduate of 1926 and former star end, he led Malden High and Holy Cross teams and later pursued the priesthood after business ventures. He was ordained last week and will begin duties immediately. Friends report Dorothy Howatt of Chester Avenue improving at Community Hospital after a serious operation.
