Miss H. M. Brown Weds Lieut. Paul Dealy at St John’s

Miss Helen M. Brown daughter of Judge and Mrs Charles J Brown of 126 Winthrop Street wed Lieut Paul B Dealy son of Mr and Mrs William F Dealy of 41 Court Road in a 9:30 mass at St John the Evangelist Church on May 8. The bride wore a white marquisette dress with sage inserts and a fingertip veil. Miss Grace E Brown was maid of honor in turquoise blue. Best man was William F Dealy Jr of Norfolk. A reception followed at Hotel Statler in Boston and the couple departed for a Washington D C wedding trip.

Dance Planned For Service Men May 18 At Cottage Park Yacht Club

The USC Winsthrop Soldiers and Sailors Committee hosts an evening of dancing for Harbor Defenses Forts and service members from East Boston Chelsea and Revere on May 18 at 8 30 p m at the Cottage Park Yacht Club. Hosts include Mrs Arthur E Cassidy chairwoman and other committee members. Bartholemew provides music and Philip Morris Ltd donates cigarettes.

Retailers Urged to File FMF Form R1601 by May 14

Local war price and rationing board warns all retailers who have not filed form R1601 by May 14 to obtain their workable inventory allotment for meats fish butter fats. Those missing the deadline may not use stamps or ration checks for further supplies. Forms available from the local Rationing Board.

Annual Banquet Date Set by Winthrop Club

The Winthrop Catholic Woman's Club aprons the annual banquet for May 19 at St John's Hall with reservations due by May 15 and a slate of officers and committees announced. Blood donors and Victory Bonds contributions highlighted, plus upcoming Catholic Congress attendance and a May 24 annual meeting.

Garden Club of Winthrop Bring-a-Friend Luncheon Event

The Garden Club of Winthrop hosts its Bring-a-Friend Day and covered dish luncheon at the Deane Winthrop Barn on Shirley Street Monday May 17 at 11 AM. The program includes a Bell Call on Birds and readings from Bird Fever by Harry Whorf, read by Mrs. Sarah Lee Whorf. A flower exhibit features spring arrangements and shrubs organized by Mrs. E. C. R. Bagley.

Annual Membership Canvass Of Visiting Nurse To Start Monday

The Winthrop Visiting Nurse Association launches its 29th annual membership canvass Monday May 17 at 1 PM with a dessert luncheon at First Baptist Church Winthrop. Canvass runs through May 31 and funds support 12 months of nursing services in Winthrop. Nurses made 2 467 calls to 707 patients, with 904 partly paid or free.

The Winthrop War Price and Rationing Board offers retailers envelopes to return stamps or deposit them in ration banks. Envelopes show commodity, stamp type, quantity, value and total. space for the retailer’s name. Each holds 500 stamps. supply available by applying to the local Board office.

Crittenton League Holds Annual Meeting In Florence

The Winthrop Circle of the Florence Crittenton League met at Beacon Villa on May 10. New president Mrs Ralph S Woollett urged members to recruit new members and revive sewing meetings. New directors named include Miss Helen L Frasier Mrs J Stanley Pratt Mrs Owen D Murphy and Miss Mary B Warnock. Reports by officers were presented and Welcome House work was highlighted by Mary Chute. Rev Ralph H Rogers spoke on Progress with a post talk discussion and musical numbers were enjoyed.
