Fathers to Blame for No Schoolhouses

A town meeting last Monday addressing a $18 000 increase for school accommodations drew little concern from residents as to housing for children. Only 31 attended. 32 had shown before. The Advisory Committee recommended indefinitely postponing the article, suggesting temporary housing for the coming year and possible use of emergency funds. The meeting adjourned at 8 35 with plans for another session. the Committee chair argued the work could not be done with the current appropriation and urged the full amount.

Jurors Drawn for May 17 Superior Court Session

Eight jurors were drawn at a selectmen meeting last Monday night to serve in the Superior Court Civil Session on May 17. Ivey Welcome at Winthrop First Church Reception

Wednesday evening an informal reception honored Rev. and Mrs. John L. Ivey at First M E Church Winthrop. Miss Helen Goldsmith presented roses from the Ladies Ald to Mrs Ivey. About 250 people greeted the new minister. The program featured piano solo by Mrs. Lucille Math Winthrop Mayor Harry Wright and speeches by Rev Ralph J Haughton and Rev R W Savage praising the church and urging support for the pastor.

Men Meet at Armory on Court Road with Captain Ames

A group gathered at the old Armory building on Court Road where they met the authorized officer Captain Chester Ames. The encounter appears routine with no reports of incident or conflict.

Movement gathers ex service men in Winthrop drive

Lieut. Mel Colson aided the effort, familiar to Winthrop residents as a former member of the Machine Gun Company. Several ex service men joined the cause and others who wished to help were present to support the initiative.
