Lieut James H Douglas of the Winthrop Police was surprised by a gathering at the Rossmore Hotel last Tuesday to honor his 25th anniversary of appointment. The event, organized by friends, featured Tom Berridge as toastmaster.
John H. Devine presented a purse of $100 in gold to a guest named Frank at a gathering. The moment followed Devine’s closing remarks and a call for Frank to respond, as friends gathered in a cordial farewell.
George E. Brigham and M. Eva Brigham, longtime Winthrop residents, observed their 60th wedding anniversary March 4 in Bonita Springs Florida. They mingled with old friends Mr. and Mrs. Smith A. Mowry and mused about home life in Winthrop, inviting well wishes via Box 52 Bonita Springs.
Smith Mowry writes from Arroyal Bonita Springs March 6 recalling Winthrop talk and the Brighams 50th wedding anniversary. He describes a Massachusetts camp colony of about 300 acres on a river with tarpon and alligators and mentions friends who would have liked to congratulate the couple in person.
The Winthrop Players under Fred G. Knell staged Turn To The Right at the Winthrop Theatre on March 6. The comedy drama drew a large crowd with strong turns by Jack Knell Edna Brumby and Marjorie McCarthy as it traced the reform of two ex jailbirds through family influence and community support.
