Aiken Wins Treasurer Contest In Local Town Election
Partisan endorsed candidates won most town offices in Monday's election with five-way treasurer race led by Harry W. Aiken 2276 to 1361 for Chester O'Donnell. William F E Remby beat John W. Fielding for Assessor of Taxes by 625 votes. Ernest Bentley defeated Melvin Carver for School Committee 2900 to 2288. Park Commissioner Albert T. Hayes triumphed over EB A Herland. Majority winners in treasurer, assessor, and park seats all had minority status with combined totals exceeding the winners by about 1000 votes. Selectmen Baker Batchelder Belcher won. David Belcher dropped to third. Libra ry trustee Edna Townsend narrowly beat A L Norris by 21 votes. A recount may be possible.
