The ninth grade dramatic club volunteers presented Mr. Willis with a director's baton on January 31 and a pair of binoculars with case on June 20 at the final assembly. Willis thanked them, noting the gifts came as he prepares to sail June 29 from San Francisco via the Panama Canal.
W. S. Felch of 69 Bay View avenue reported the theft of his 16 foot dory and a pair of oars from the foot of Bay View avenue. Harbor Police were notified of the loss. Mrs H Gardner of Flushing has been in town visiting old friends all week.
The Junior High School Savings Bank closes its second successful year with deposits rising from $6,210.45 in the first year to $7,127.05 in the just completed year. A statement from the school records shows the growth and totals.
The Health Board plans to issue certificates for 100 percent sanitary store conditions. Merchants may apply at the Health Department office in the town hall to show compliance with regulations and gain the certification.
Charles Crawford, five years old, son of Mr and Mrs Walter H Crawford of 18 Jerald Street, was struck by a Ford truck from Swett's Market driven by Ralph Murray of 527 Pleasant Street. The left wheel hit him on the right side as the driver braked. He was taken home and treated for abrasions of both legs by Dr Raymond B Parker. Murray reported the accident to police.
Alexander McDonald was told by a lawyer and Kenneth Johnson that the State had an unclaimed deposit from 1860 placed by his brother Angus, who died in 1862 serving in Co. B, 9th Massachusetts Infantry. George Laurie said the state would turn over the funds.

Winthrop Post 146 of the American Legion hosts its annual carnival at Ingle side Park next Thursday July 4. The day runs from morning until midnight with a First Corps Cadet Band performance, a mid afternoon baseball game between Winthrop Town and Somerville City Club, and a grand fireworks display from 11 to 12. A mid way and varied events aim to please all, including an athletic meet with junior and senior age groups and races, a tug of war, firemen versus policemen if possible, a three mile marathon for boys under 19, and a Boy Scout relay. The afternoon features the local ball team versus Somerville City Club.
A joint veterans outing and picnic is planned by town organizations at Fort Standish Lovell Island on Sunday July 14. Boats will transport attendees to games races and contests with an army barracks prepared meal by a Newburyport chef. Jim Sullivan chairs arrangements and tickets for adults and children are available from commanders of veteran groups.
The Winthrop Catholic Woman's Club plans its annual July Outing on Wednesday July 10 touring Green Gables Magnolia on the North Shore. Mrs Ernest B Pevear chairs with Mesdames E Keleher and J Paz assisting. Reservations due by July 6 with a meal choice and preordered dinner. After dinner a social bridge and whist session will follow.
