In a school event the Junior High Salver Cups were presented to the top performers. The awards went to a standout girl for all around excellence and to a standout boy for similar achievement, reflecting balance in athletic and scholastic effort.

State Historical Markers For Town Details

The Massachusetts Tercentenary Commission places 150 roadside markers in towns with early history. Frank Tucker oversaw two Winthrop tablets on Shirley Street near the Yacht Club and Revere Street. The markers note Governor Winthrop House and the Deane Winthrop House with ship signaling and occupancy histories.

Carnival races for children on July 4 at 10

Winthrop Post announces carnival events for July 4 with athletic races for boys and girls starting at 10 am. Directors Anthony Monti and Melvin T. Repairs for cliff urged by commission

The Highlands wall, built by the Metropolitan District Commission about 25 years ago at Grovers Avenue, has survived but the tarred strip behind it has deteriorated from sea action. Chairman Tibbetts asks the Commission to restore and grade the area to its former condition in anticipation of Shore Drive’s possible extension.

Car overturns near River Road injures none

Four Winthrop youths escaped serious injury when their car overturned at the sharp Corner of River road and Buchanan street. The driver was alleged to be speeding as he attempted the turn when the rear left wheel collapsed under the strain and the vehicle wrecked.
