Fire Halts Firemen at Memorial Day Alarm

A Memorial Day gathering at the Pauline street fire station was interrupted when an alarm from Box 68 sent firemen to the Burrill house behind Wadsworth Block. Mrs Beatrice Phillips, occupant of the Burrill house, suffered severe burns and was taken to the Community Hospital by Patrolman Turner. the blaze was fought for over an hour as the firemen were to attend church services later that day.

New Pastor Arrives at St. John the Evangelist Winthrop

Cardinal O Connell assigns Rev John T OBrien from Our Lady of Sorrows Sharon as removable parish priest of St John the Evangelist Winthrop He is a Plymouth Mass native formerly at Gate of Heaven South Boston and Sharon He preached farewell in Sharon last Sunday and began duties June 16 arriving Tuesday He plans to meet all parishioners and will celebrate his first Sunday Mass next week.

Anniversary of the American Flag observance parade

A Flag Day commemoration was held in Elks Hall with a Sunday parade through town starting at 2:30 from Metcalf Square. The event featured police, veterans groups, scouts, and Elks, with a formal program including an essay and address by James T. Williams, Boston American editor.
