Visiting Nurse Association of Winthrop thanks citizens for a successful Flower Day event. The nurses, funded mainly by a one dollar annual canvass, report 602 visits to 602 patients in April and May 1928, with varied visit lengths from 10 minutes to several hours.
Winthrop Lodge of Elks plans a Midnight Vaudeville Frolic at Winthrop Theatre the night before the Fourth. Hans C. Kleemann will chair the Special Show Committee with Sewell Verney Jack Shea and Charley LaFonde aiding. The event aims to exceed prior sellouts and will feature prominent local talent with ads to follow in this paper.
The Winthrop carnival features Fourth of July events with children races directed by Henry P. McCarthy and James C. Crowley, a Punch and Judy show, a baseball game, a Chelsea Post American Legion band concert, a midway, and an evening fireworks display. Organizers seek citizen support to cover a prior deficit and sell tags and keys through Post members.
The Fortune Teller operetta directed by Mr George H Deckham and Miss Clara Spence featured a large cast including Sir Joseph Porter Ralph Rackstraw and Josephine. Scenery by Earl Beddees impressed the audience with a vivid performance. A reading of Instructions to lass of 1929 and a final Alma Mater song closed with the class marching to the High School for the Class Day Banquet.
Work on the Point Shirley railway tracks is about halfway complete with repairs begun. Bartlett road is finished and Oakland street and Nahant avenue are well along their repairs. The improved conditions have drawn favorable comment from many town residents.
