Cast of Musical Comedy and Minstrel Revue Opens Monday

After weeks of rehearsals the Musical Comedy and Minstrel Revue debuts Monday in Winthrop with 60 performers. The show features 50 numbers across classical, comedy, pantomime and song with profits aiding soldiers stationed in town for athletic equipment. Tickets are in high demand through cast members or the Elks ticket chair.

First Solemn Mass for St. John's Parish Celebrant

Parishioners of St. Johns observe a first Solemn Mass on Sunday June 15 at 10 a.m. Rev William H McGuire OMI recently ordained in Washington DC will lead with Msgr Richard J Quinlan as Archpriest and Rev John T Sullivan Rev James I Carroll Rev William F Mullaney as preacher. Fr McGuire, a Winthrop native, is the first local priest ordained in ten years.

Pleasant Park Yacht Club Hosts Zam Bola Weekend

Pleasant Park Yacht Club invites Winthrop families to a Friday 7 30 p m to midnight and Saturday 1 30 p m to midnight Zam Bela at the clubhouse on Pleasant Street. The event features a midway, refreshments booth, 40 foot Ferris wheel, yacht races Saturday at 3 p m, band concert by Sons of American Legion, special prizes, and free admission.

Winthrop High to Hold Graduation at Miller Field

About 235 seniors will receive diplomas at graduation exercises this Friday evening at Miller Field. Jolly Patenerr vice president will preside. Mr. Bentley will confer diplomas and Principal Orrin C. Davis will present them. The class gift will be presented by William Talcott Jr. and Robert Hanlon. Arthur Bou dreau will award prizes from local organizations.

Sparrow Players Present The Dark Tower in Workshop Run

The Sparrow Players staged a three act play The Dark Tower for parents and friends in a weekend workshop. Doris L. Mahaney wrote and directed the production. Several cast members performed while illness kept others from taking part. Plans promise fall play promotion efforts. Elks Prepare For State Convention At New Ocean House

The Massachusetts Elks' Association holds its annual state convention June 14 at 7 p.m. with outdoor patriotic events led by Newton Lodge. Drills by the East Lynn Post American Legion team and music by the American Legion Band highlight activities. Congressman Casey and Gov Saltonstall are slated to speak, followed by banquets and business sessions. Daniel J Honan, state president, leads local Elks in attendance.

No Decision Yet on Transportation Talks in Winthrop

The Winthrop Transportation Committee met Monday in Town Hall but made no progress. Negotiations with the railroad first mortgage bondholders' trustees continue on price and titles to property held by the trustees. No definite decisions have been reached and the committee will mark time until matters are resolved.

All American Flower Show Draws Large Enthusiasts

Garden Club of Winthrop presents the 1941 All American Flower Show at Odd Fellows Hall June 6 and 7 under Mrs. Robert A. Walsh. The Boston Herald praised the event noting flowers from Wyoming Utah Oklahoma North and South Carolina Georgia Virginia Kansas and Iowa were shown with blue ribbons from the State Department of Agriculture. The largest display depicted a Dormant Season in Wyoming with Black Hills flora.
