H G Roberts Receives Commission in Army
Henry G. Roberts of the Winthrop Police Department has been commissioned as a first lieutenant in the United States Army and granted a leave of absence by the Board of Selectmen. A 12 year veteran, he served eighteen months in France with the Yankee Division in World War I and joined the Winthrop Machine Gun Company at age 16. He is married with a son and resides on Beal Street. He is ordered to New York on June 12 for further assignments.

Funeral Services For F. J. Belcher
Funeral services for Frank J. Belcher of 15 Ingleside Ave were held last Sunday at Reynolds Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph M. Harper officiating. Interment followed in Winthrop Cemetery. Belcher, born January 6 1912 in Winthrop, died May 26 and leaves parents Harold P. and Mrs. Belcher, five sisters and two brothers plus a grandfather. Bearers were Past Grands of Crystal Bay Lodge including William McGaw and Donald U. McGaw.

What America Means To Me Patriotic Pageant At Winthrop
The patriotic pageant What America Means To Me was staged at Miller Field on May 28 as part of graduation exercises and again on June 1 to honor I Am An American Day and Memorial Day. Over a thousand children and teachers helped plan and perform this Windows-era production directed by Miss Beatrice Lord with musical and craft support from multiple Winthrop schools. The program traced freedoms including Religion Government Speech Association Labor Opportunity and Fear through tableaux dance and drama, ending with Our Country and The Star Spangled Banner performed by students.
