Mount Washington memory and bear encounter hikers recount

Eugene P Whittier and son Paul Henry A Horne and Rev Ralph M Har per spent last week trekking Mt Washington. The rector notes rising casual camping as economical recreation with self supplied meals and sleeping gear. A bear sighting near the Madison Gulf trail adds a frontier anecdote and the Leviathan ship passes Groves Light on Tuesday afternoon.

Autos Take Back Dives

A truck backed through a fence and tumbled down a steep bank at Summit Avenue injuring no one. Harry Land of Pilgrim Foundry rushed from a nearby house to assist as the vehicle slid onto railroad property. Another Reo truck on Pauline Street rolled backward near the Board of Health office, stopping after hitting an iron rail fence. Isadore Kaplow's truck and the Keough company repaired the fence with minimal damage.

Registration Sept 8 at Town Hall

A townwide voter registration session is scheduled for September 8 at the Town Hall. The hours are from 7:39 to 9, and registration is open to all precincts in the town.

Selectman and Mrs Remby Start On Long Trip

Tuesday morning Mr and Mrs Josh ua Remby left for a month long automobile journey through Maine Canada and Nova Scotia. They will travel in stages at their leisure in a new Packard. Mr Remby recently switched from a Buick.

Elks Fair Set for August 6 and 7 Weekend

The Winthrop Lodge of Elks schedules its annual county fair on Friday and Saturday August 6 and 7 extending to two days with premiums, midway booths, a side show, band and dancing in the clubhouse ballroom. A free clam bake Saturday afternoon, children’s games Saturday morning, and women volunteers featuring a Glenwood gas range are planned.

Whist Party at Elks Club House Friday Evening

Ladies host a fund raising whist party at the Elks Club house this Friday at 8 30 pm. Prizes reward best scores to aid Winthrop Lodge of Elks relief fund. Mrs Gould Mrs Cochran Mrs Canney and Mrs Russell in charge. Score cards cost 35 cents and weekly events continue until further notice.

Cottage Park Yacht Club Carnival Aims to Raise Funds

The Cottage Park Yacht Club hosts a full day event at the Sunnyside Avenue temporary clubhouse to raise money for a new clubhouse after a fire. Events include swimming races for girls and boys, diving contests, a tub race, a Brookline Swimming Club exhibition, a diving girls troupe, band concerts by AL Ives, a midway, and affordable refreshments.
