Moonlight Sail Planned by Massachusetts Republicans
The Young Republicans of Massachusetts and the Republican Club plan a moonlight cruise aboard the S. S. Steel Pier on Tuesday August 8 at 8 30 p m leaving Long Wharf at State Street foot. The entire boat is chartered for Republicans and friends from across the state with dancing games and refreshments planned. Helen Pleasanton of Brookline and Mrs Wilbur P Davis of Worcester helped organize the event which follows a season of activity and progress.

May Be Candidate for Congress Eastman Considered for Seat
Pressure on Dr. George W. Eastman of Lynn grows as a possible successor to the late Congressman Connery. A World War veteran and former head surgeon on the U S S Luckenbach, Eastman also aided troops after the U S S Mr Vernon torpedoing. His supporters expect him to run on the Republican ticket and lead it if he does.

Winthrop Barbers Announce Price Increase and Half Holiday
At a Winthrop Barbers' Association meeting on July 21 the shops voted to close Wednesdays at 1 p m for a weekly half-holiday. They also raised adult haircuts to 50 cents, barbershoppers? no. corrected: child rates updated to 50 cents for 16 and over, and 35 cents on weekdays 50 on Saturdays for those under 16. The changes stay until further notice.

The eighth annual Richard F. Metcalf Post VFW Carnival in Winthrop showcased daily amateur contest winners. Buddy Shannon of 334 Revere Street won the all-star finale in suitcase tap dance after a week of performances judged by Commander Tom Martinetti.

The Winthrop Golf Club feminine team defeated United Shoe Machinery Club 17 to 10 on Sunday July 11. Jane Gillespie earned high praise for her performance by gaining 2½ points from state junior champion Alice Belanger. The Yukon week at Camp Powow, Bay Shore Council, drew about 80 campers including many Winthrop scouts. Highlights included a council fire with The Shooting of Dan McGrew, a Gold Rush treasure hunt, the Gleeper mystery, competitive games with Camp Fellsland, an Adventure Trail, and exploration days in Whittier country. Special guests included marathoner John Kelly discussing 1936 Olympic experiences.

The Young Women's Republican Club of Winthrop held a summer gathering a Weenie Roast at Ridgeway's Beach Saturday night July 24 with about twenty five attendees including husbands and friends.
