Patrolman Orra French in Serious Condition at Home
Patrolman Orra French of the Police Department is reported in serious condition at his home at 75 Hermon Street after collapsing while on duty near Point Shirley. He suffered cramps and shock, with Patrolman Haigh taking the wheel and others assisting as he was returned to the station and then home.

First Anti Aircraft Practice in Boston Harbor
Battery A from Fort Banks is ordered to Fort Standish for preliminary instruction in firing at a target towed by an airplane. This marks the first such practice ever held in Boston Harbor. Col Kilbourne expects the exercise to occur on August 3 or 4.

Annie M Donovan Celebrates 80th Birthday at Winthrop Home
Surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Mrs. Annie M. Donovan of 122 Main Street Winthrop Mass celebrated her 80th birthday on Sunday July 19. The house brimmed with floral tributes as civic religious and fraternal members joined in congratulating her and presenting gifts including an eighty gold piece purse from family. A buffet reception and a concert of instrumental and vocal music followed the daylong celebration.

Patrolman Buckley Foils Break-In at Walsh Drug Store
Early Monday over Magee's Corner Pa trolman Dan Buckley chased two youths after finding a loose rear door at Edward F Walsh's drug store. Ralph Sullivan 18 of East Boston and Frank Compano 17 of Chelsea were arrested with a sharpened chisel and held for a hearing next week. Sullivan claimed Coast Guard links to rum running.
