In Winthrop the maternity ward has seen 315 births since the hospital opened and 173 boys versus 143 girls by June 1. The piece notes demand for more space, highlighting the tiny nursery with only 12 bassinettes in a room resembling a typical two family dwelling.
Ex selectman Charles L Ridgway who has been ill for weeks is now much improved at his Shir Ley street summer home. He recently marked his 81st birthday with family and grandchildren Herbert and Violette who were honor students in the Winthrop High School class of 1925.
Ice cream made at Ham's Center tops taste tests with highest marks from the Board of Health. The Ham's brand, produced in the Center from quality ingredients, is promoted for consumption at all Ham's Co. stores.
A public reception for Rev. John T. O'Brien, newly appointed pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church, will be held Sunday evening in the Winthrop Theatre. O'Brien arrived last month from Sharon and has been active in the community. further details will be announced.
A July reception at Town Hall honored Rev John T O'Brien and Rev William F Lyons with Boston guests and local officials. Speakers emphasized loyalty to country and faith as part of civic service amid rose decor and an adult pageant The event featured music and a concluding call to expand summer classes and community activities in Highlands and beyond.
Life saving instruction has started in Winthrop with sessions at Main Street Bridge and the Winthrop Highlands Association Pier.
